The gallerist is thrilled to bring out these four artists who follow the same global red thread through their body of works. They do what seems most relevant in arts: inspire their public to question situations. Might it be about the management of water on this globe, or the religious behaviour about the unknown in space, or the prejudices about the colour of a human skin. Micro Meso Macro, it is all fascinating.
‘My grandfather Wim Arps opened an art gallery in The Hague on Nov 9th 1902. His sister Jet was his partner and their main aim was to sell their brothers work, the famous Bernardus. Both Wim and Jet were talented too and the gallery offered them an interesting period of life in the center of the roaring society. They became Royal Purveyors, delivered gold printing to the Pope. In the fifties my father took over and a stationary shop was added to the business, still counting the royal family as regular customers. This family history provided me with love for the arts since I can remember. Now my son Niels will continue . We both are most interested to sustain, renew or improve the quality of artistic endeavour across cultures. With a focus on cross media projects.’ (Ella Arps)
Recently the Andy Warhol Foundation and the Museum of Modern Art in New York added some works of the Arps Gallery to their collection.
