“No special effects or digital retouching were used to create the characteristically Hindu scene in ‘Kya khali kamza hai?’ (Do you have a room available?). Working mainly in my studio, the scenes I build from scratch take up the whole space. Shooting a picture like this in a hotel room required that I leave behind my usual working methods. How can one transform a hotel room into an enclosed space with no opening to the world other than the one presented in that moment, not one patiently awaited as would a photographer but completely constructed and provoked?”
