It is one of the Belgian magazines on photography. Its name is Médor. It is presented as follow :
Médor is not a dog. It is an independent media, of investigations and stories, centered on Belgium. A magazine of 128-pages which gives a central place to documentary photography. A laboratory of collective practices. A cooperative of more than 1,800 citizens.
Since 2015, Médor has been investigating all types of subjects related to Belgium. Far from the flow of news but with an eye riveted on the emergencies of the moment. From tax evasion to political shenanigans, from social dumping to the flaws of the educational or medical system, from the place of women to the price of their oocytes. All with a single ideology: the force of facts. Neither commentary or activism journalism, nor forums find their place with us.
This unique freedom to look everywhere, in a small area where we quickly become friends, is offered to Médor by its economic model. Médor is the first media in French-speaking Belgium to be structured as a cooperative with a social purpose, ensuring its economic and editorial independence.
Ten years ago, Médor made a choice: to devote, in each issue, between 10 and 15 pages to the portfolio of a photographer. This is not a question of illustrating an article, but of displaying long-term documentary work, of developing a perspective, of questioning reality.
At a time when everyone is documenting their lives live and any image sometimes artificially generated can be thrown on any platform, photos have never seemed so blurry. Their reading is unclear, their authenticity and legitimacy debated. However, photography plays an essential role. It has this extraordinary ability to document the world around us, archive it and carefully nourish our collective memory. This is why the latest issue of Médor places Belgian documentary photography at the center of its pages.
Médor magazine is published 4 times a year. It is extended and supplemented all year round on its website.
