The exhibition-installation Rien ici qui demeure (Nothing Here That Remains) is a dive into the troubled depths of dormant images that Alain Willaume has chosen to bring to the surface. Created in favor of the “Les Nouvelles Oubliés” residency by RN7 and at the invitation of LUX, Nothing Here That Remains give a glimpse of a proliferating underground work which, like an atlas of uncertainty, confronts impermanence and stages puzzles and rhizomes.
After more than 45 years of photographic practice, and in the depths of the pandemic that is shaking our time, the photographer opened boxes and reactivated a few sleeping hard drives. What types of archives did it have and what is their meaning today? How to bring them back into play to create new narrative materials? Thanks to the time for reflection offered by this original residence, Alain Willaume reveals and weaves in the labyrinthine spaces of LUX another possible framework for his work. Pulled out, according to chance and necessity, from the heart of his personal collection (postcards, newspaper clippings, travel diaries, “visual debris”, music, films and original works forgotten or never shown), this dive, partial and biased, in an atypical collection of images updates a few layers that make up the interior world of the photographer.
