Little big galerie presents Floriane de Lassée : Inside Views.
In 2003, Floriane de Lassée discovered New York and the vertical shapes of a city that never sleeps. At night, the facades of skyscrapers become mirrors where incandescent fires are reflected while windows, from one floor to another, open onto the intimacy of interiors that are then revealed. Since then, the photographer has continued to explore urban territories around the world and to tell the story of these isolated destinies that only she has been able to perceive behind the secret of these windows. Fictional characters or tangible beings momentarily extracted from their reality, these silhouettes, often feminine, are like presence-absences ready to disappear if a gaze is set on them.
Through these images of a fantasized city, Floriane de Lassée does not make an inventory but constructs her own aesthetic of the city —a falsely neutral point of view— marked by a visual game on several planes, the preponderant role of color, the geometric aspect of facades, the choice of perspectives and daring frames. The city becomes a field of experimentation that she transforms into a reservoir of signs through the choice of sophisticated staging.
A highly expected retrospective, Inside Views will hold a special place, at a time when the pandemic has cast a dramatic shadow over the march of the world, forcing us to deepen our reflection on the meaning of our contemporary societies, which are ever more urbanised.
