Tomorrow, Wednesday the 22 of March, will open Les Paradis. Rapport Annuel, an exhibition by Paolo Woods and Gabriele Galimberti (INSTITUTE). Co-organized by Les Rencontres d’Arles and the university Paris-II Panthéon Assas, Les Paradis. Rapport Annuel was one of the most acclaimed exhibition during the 2015 edition. The partnership was conceived in order to present exhibitions to those who cannot go as far as the Camargue. The exhibition will run until April 21.
Back in 2015, Paolo Woods and Gabriele Galimberti gave a sociological, political and artistic onlook on tax avoidance, unveiling secrets, common representations and myths. Conceived as an investigation, the two photographers created a dummy company whose headquarters were located in same building as Apple, Coca-Cola or Google. Their work gave a better understanding of what a tax haven is and can represent.
By teaming up with University of Assas, Les Rencontres d’Arles wish to propose an political and social off-wall approach to documentary photography; university being the best place par excellence of collective thinkings.
Two conferences are also planned:
– March 23, 7 pm: “Documentary photography: an art of public denunciation?” With Gabriele Galimbertin, Paolo Woods, Frédéric Lambert (semiotic teacher), Michaela Ott (philosopher) and Laure Poupard (historian of photography).
– March 24, 7 pm: “Tax havens: beyond clichés” with Gauthier Blanluet (Professor of Tax Law), Raphaël Coin (General Tax Fiscal Director, General Electric France), Martin Collet Benoit Delaunay (Professor of Tax Law) and Nathalie Mognetti (Tax Director, Total).
