We continue and present the projects selected by Les Nuits Photographiques 2015 awards, which took place on September 19th. Today is about “Welcome to Savar“, directed by Eric Guglielmi, french photographer.
Welcome to Savar
On 24 April 2013, the eight-storey Rana Plaza garment factory in Bangladesh collapsed. That day, only 2,000 out of the total 3,000 workers were present. Cracks had been seen on the top floor but the companies housed in the building still made their workers come in. Because everything had been fine until then. In the end, the tragedy reached a death toll of 1,133.
It was a crucial moment, a turning point that would change our life, our lives. What can we do? What must we do?
How will our actions today impact the future? We are brought face-to-face with ourselves, with our consciences, with our responsibilities. From Bangladesh, the photographer serves up a set of previously unseen images of a world on life support. It includes photographs, video and an installation that relates the immense suffering that is clearly on par with other disasters that somehow receive greater media coverage.
