Happiness, friendship and joie de vivre, they’re all there at the VOZ’Galerie in Boulogne with Pierre Jamet’s exhibition Y’a d’la joie! To start the spring in a good humour, go there to soak up the joyful laughter in the first youth hostels, the summer at the seaside, women’s beauty, the enthusiasm of youth under the Front Populaire, the liberation of Paris as well as the golden years of the post-war period… A close friend of Doisneau and Willy Ronis, Pierre Jamet occupies a special place in humanist photography. From the 1930s he took photographs in complete freedom, to “prolong the short-lived and save the moment”, the places, but most often the people, for whom he always had a warm regard and empathy. An indisputable joie de vivre radiates from his photos.
