The series Madernité by Leonora Baumann was selected by Nathalie Bocher-Lenoir (Director of Prix Niepce, Gens d’images) during portfolio review at the Gaite Lyrique on the 15 and 16 November 2014.
The birth of a child should be a time of wonder and celebration. In many developing countries, however, it becomes a battle against death. According to a report published by the NGO Save the Children, in 2011 nearly 3 million newborns died within the first 30 days, a third of that number within the first 24 hours. The day of birth is the highest risk for infants and mothers worldwide.
