Leica Gallery Wetzlar – Hemeria : Emanuele Scorcelletti : Elegia Fantastica

Preview

The “Covid” years were terrible for photographers. But they allowed some to take a break from their frantic race to find and take on increasingly poorly paid assignments. Emanuele Scorcelletti  immersed himself, during this period of uncertainty, in  very personal research work.

He left for the Marches, this region of Italy facing the Adriatic, his family cradle. It is in the heart of the stronghold of Mario Giacomelli, Giuseppe Cavalli and the so-called Misa gang that Emanuele focused on a work of memory and desire.

The author’s photographic mastery authorized, through technical reappropriation, the graphic choices of the excellent photographers who have highlighted this region.

The precise use of violent contrasts which should freeze the images paradoxically allows movement to take hold. The next moment is fixed in each image by the subtle balance of masses. Against very traditional compositional backgrounds, each photograph draws its onlooker in with its play of fields, its heightened luminous reflections and its threads shared between the subjects and the author.

The author is a professional, recognized and award-winning for his images on important personalities in the world. Here he comes out of his many narrative frameworks to take us into a series of luminous poems about the land of his ancestors.

All of this work is currently on display in the mother gallery at Leica headquarters for several months. It was also the subject of a beautiful art book: “Elegia Fantastica”, published by Hemeria.
