Laura El Tantawy won the 2018 SCAM Roger Pic Prize with her series In The Shadow of the Pyramids. Her works brings together a set of photographs taken during nine years, between 2005 and 2014. It shows the Egyptian social situation. She captured the hope of the Egyptian revolution and its disenchantments. Very dark, the series suggests the violence and the chaos of the Egyptian society preceding and following the revolution.
Writer, filmmaker and photographer, Laura El-Tantawy was born in Worcestershire, England. She lives and works in London after studying in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United States.
The SCAM Roger Pic Prize was created in 1993. It rewards the author of a photographic portfolio worth 4,500 euros.
