I walked in the centre of Amsterdam, minding my own business, when I noticed a stray piece of artwork lying next to the trash. I thought maybe this was the first time that this painting had seen the light of day. I wanted to adopt it, but then I realised that this was a big moment Lying down alone basking in the Amsterdam sun, this painting was alive. Finally, people could admire it. The sad thing being the garbage men would take it away the morning after. I decided to capture these disregarded works of art and to start an online exhibition based on them. As an artist, I think you have to help people to look at things in a different way. for the painting- its debut.
For young artists, it is difficult to get your work onto a stage to be seen. It’s not easy to get a place in a museum or in the current photo exhibitions. This is why I chose to create an online exposition. It’s cheap and everyday I’m on the lookout for new images. Also, I encourage other people to join the exposition and become a curator. You can upload pictures so the site can become a growing piece of art in itself. With more and more curators uploading every day, I hope LastExpo.com will become a museum of forgotten art. The whole world can see it.
Where will all this lead to? I hope within a year or so I will be able to make a book from the collection. So it will exist in the real world as well. Maybe I can place these books back on the street where I found the paintings and give the garbage men something to read!
Last Expo is an online exhibition. It is a collection of photographs taken of orphaned art in its final resting place. It’s a commemorative album of forgotten human imagination.
