The last Camera magazine was recently in France. Entitled On the Traces of Jean Rouch, the n°17-18 issue is devoted to the centenary of Jean Rouch, in order to understand and celebrate the cinematographic heritage of the inventor of “cinema vérité”. In summary, a testimony of Jean-Paul Colleyn, an interview of William Klein (entitled The genius of France) or an introduction of Bernard Plossu. The number wanted to give voice to the friends, students, relatives or simple admirers of Jean Rouch.
Created in 1922 but disappeared in 1982, Camera was born from its ashes in 2013. The magazine has now refocused on the emergence of new photographic practices, making the bridge between “masters of photography and young talents”. In this perspective, one can feel the inspiration of Jean Rouch in the series Liberty 2016/2017 by Omar Victor Diop.
