We have arrived at the seventh edition of this event. An age of reason to establish a real notoriety in the Avignon landscape. Quantity and quality are at the rendezvous to offer many activities around the photographic exhibition. This exhibition is born in a competition open to all; but, whose subject remains the rich underwater and aquatic world of Provence. The works are chosen by a mixed Jury of divers and photographers. This jury also awards (after several stages of selection) away from trivial prizes since the first prize will have a chance to exercise his talents in the Red Sea, for two weeks. Then, beyond third place, all selected works will be exhibited on the picture rails of the prestigious Cloître Saint Louis and outside on the gates of the no less famous Square Agricol Perdiguier.
The marine environment is not to be outdone with multiple conferences by tenors of research and the underwater world. The children from the schools and after school center participate in various guided tours . An underwater videography prize is also awarded to a film director. Raising awareness on the important and varied problems that disrupt life under the seas are also part of it.
But back to our photographs. The nice surprise is the steady improvement I see year after year. We are no longer in traditional, documentary and banal photography. The technical quality of the shots and the lighting is of an excellent level, the sense of restitution of the image becomes a priority in the angles of view. There are just a few post-production points to master to install these works among the great photographic images.
Avignon has put its head under water for two weeks and this time it’s a pleasure.
