La Galerie Particulière‘s selection
Since it’s our first year at Paris Photo, we decided our program should deal with the concept of marginality.
Stan GuiGui series Atras del Muro was taken in Bogota, where the government herds prostitutes, drug addicts and thieves into a ghetto far from other citizens, keeping them there with weekly deliveries of cocaine.
The latest series by David Hilliard is a psychological examination of a reclusive father and son living in Cape Cod and how their neuroses will gradually lead them to ruin and exclusion.
The first photograph is David Hilliard’s “Into Another Skin,” in which Eric, the subject of the story, reads near a window. It’s a fine example of Hilliard’s distinctive compositions. The photograph exudes a sense of melancholy. Everything seems peaceful at first glimpse, but a single detail, that he wears wool mittens to read, is a sign of deeper trouble.
