Until May 7th, as part of its Les Vagamondes festival, La Filature, Scène nationale presents an exhibition by SMITH.
Christian Caujolle, its curator, presents it as follows:
Bodies, faces, spaces, shades more than colors, poetry much more than observation, evocation and not story, questions, a lot, and a lot of poetry. We cannot reduce SMITH’s work to what makes it its affirmed content around gender, identity, relationship to the cosmos because, even if he is constantly confronted with these fundamental questions which logically lead him to collaborations with artists from other fields and with scientists from all disciplines, he surpasses them by the aesthetic issues that he implements.
festival: Les Vagabondes: the spinning mill of Mulhouse
In this first stage of a presentation that will continue with Désideration, it is photography and a little video that are implemented, before the installation. A photography that questions the codes of established genres – portrait, landscape – and the norms of perception by confronting a fragile and vibrant palette, almost faded, with the assertive and more graphic tones of what the human eye does not perceive but that the thermal camera reveals. Revelation, linked to autobiography, these are perhaps the words that best suit SMITH’s work.
