For its fifth edition, the photographic season at the Abbaye Royale de l’Epau if showing a range of views about citizenship, the 2017-2018 theme for the biennial activities offered by the Département of Sarthe throughout its territory.
This journey, in the heart of the Abbaye and its thirteen hectares, shows the works of Daniel Beltrà, Denis Bourges, Philippe Boyer, Virgine N’Guyen Hoang, Uwe Hommer, Rip Hopkins, Guy Le Querrec, Georges Pacheco and Boris Wilensky.
A visit here offers a double look at a place full of history and striking photos. Each exhibition tells its own story, through the setting that plays with the space that could be the centre of the Abbaye, on the trunks of trees or on the walls.
The first part will be in the abbey’s park from 13th May to 5th November, with exhibitions by Daniel Beltrea, Philippe Boyer, Guy Le Querrec and Georges Pachenco. The second part awaits the visitors, this time inside from 23rd June to 12th September, with Rip Hopkins, Denis Bourges et Matthieu Ricard.
Also, as in last year, the photographic exhibitions will escape from the confines of the Abbaye Royale de l’Epau to the city for an “outside the walls” exhibition and be installed on the railings of the Département buildings in the centre of the city itself: Nikolaj Lund and his photos of musicians outside their normal settings then Denis Lambert and Hervé Petitbon and their sports photos of the Le Mans 24 Hour race. This exhibition will also be shown for the first time at the Le mans railway station during the Le Mans 24 Hour race. These will be followed during the summer by Philippe Boyer’s photos of wild bees before Uwe Hommer’s teenage families complete the cycle in the autumn.
