The L.A. Project debuts its first annual public art event, Projecting L.A., in DTLA, featuring the work of 35 photographers to celebrate the photographic community and diverse stories that make up the streets of Los Angeles, on Saturday, October 22, 2022.
The first public photography installation of its kind in the city, Projecting L.A. gathers the work of 35 street, documentary and news photographers, including Pulitzer Prize Winner Ringo Chiu, Los Angeles Times photojournalists Francine Orr and Jason Armond, legendary L.A. photographers Estevan Oriol and Ted Soqui, Los Angeles Center of Photography founder Julia Dean, and Emmy Award winner Daniel Sackheim.
These photographs will be projected onto a four story building, creating a rich and diverse visual experience of L.A.’s stories from the streets. These include everything from projects documenting hospitals during the height of the pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement, California wildfires, amongst many others that make up the cultural fabric of Los Angeles.
This first annual event, designed to inspire and educate, will launch in a downtown parking lot-turned-theater. In addition to the main event, The L.A. Project is providing food trucks, high top tables, and limited feature style seating. Food trucks open at 6:00 PM. Screenings at 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM.
As a way to give back to the city they love, The L.A. Project photographers plan to donate a selection of their work to the Los Angeles Central Library, adding to its already impressive photographic collection
The LA Project announces a collaboration with the esteemed Leica Akademie of America, on a five-day street photography workshop, led by The L.A. Project director, Julia Dean.
