Sandra Knecht’s exhibition Home is a Foreign Place is on view until April 27, 2025 at the Kulturs45ung Basel H. Geiger I KBH.G foundation. It is announced as follows:
Sandra Knecht, a Swiss artist born in 1968 in Zurich and currently living in Buus (BL), has been exploring the concept of “home” for over ten years. For Knecht, it is dynamic and elusive—something that is continually reworked and renegotiated. Her exploration of home goes beyond the simple idea of a physical space to approach it instead as a complex and constantly evolving phenomenon. Knecht’s artistic research on this subject touches on geographical, historical, sociological, philosophical and even culinary aspects.
The exhibition Home is a Foreign Place at the Kulturstiftung Basel H. Geiger | KBH.G approaches the notion of “home” from different angles – as a feeling, a place and an idea. It questions the evolution of our understanding of home and its profound impact on human existence. The exhibition is the result of ten years of intensive research and artistic work, during which Sandra Knecht has explored themes such as home, identity and diversity in depth. It represents the concentrated culmination of her practice and is the artist’s most extensive solo exhibition to date.
Home Is a Foreign Place invites us to question what is ours and what is foreign to us. With her radical and uncompromising approach, Sandra Knecht opens up new perspectives and a broader understanding of community.
