For his first book, 56,000 Kilomètres: un continent et des hommes, Kares Le Roy gives a face to the people of forgotten Asia across five chapters: South-Eastern Asia, South Asia, North Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East. Combining portraits, landscapes and scenes from life in more than one hundred images, his depictions of this part of the world are an invitation to travel.
In this work, Kares defies the standards of beauty imposed by the West, attempting to establish another more natural (albeit less sophisticated) standard of beauty. He shows us the faced of those about whom we rarely speak, those we stigmatize, and those we simply forget.
