Former Director of Diversification of Le Monde, Julien FRYDMAN joined the LIBELLA Group, as of July 1, as Director of the Photographic hub Delpire & Co, grouping the Editions Delpire, Photosynthèse, and the Galerie Folia, 13 rue de l ‘Abbey in Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris.
Director of development of the Luma Foundation in Arles from 2015 to 2018, he joined and stabilized the Offprint exhibition dedicated to independent publishing (150 participants), and piloted its development in Paris, London, and in Arles with the opening of his bookstore. It was during this period that he concluded the entry of the 12,000 photo books collection of Martin Parr at the Tate Modern and within the Arles foundation, thus ensuring the institutionalization of one of the most beautiful collections dedicated to the subject.
Director of Paris Photo (2011-2014) which he relaunched at the Grand Palais and established in the Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, he gives pride of place to photography books, welcoming more than 25 French and international publishers to the center of the fair ; by programming an exhibition dedicated to the photography book every year (2014 Artists Books and Photography / 2013 Protest Books / 2012 Bernd & Hilla Becher, Imprimés / 2011 Ed van Der Elsken, Love on the Left Bank); by initiating the Paris Photo – Aperture Foundation Awards which honors the best books of the year, with its exhibition and its associated semi-annual review “The PhotoBook Review”.
Director of Magnum Photos (2005-2010), he contributed to the creation of numerous works, exhibitions and books by photographers from the famous cooperative.
With his teams in Paris and Arles and the photographers, he will work on the redeployment of the Gallery, the development of new editorial projects, and their international influence.
