The Naturalia series shows Jonk‘s photographic work on abandoned places reclaimed by Nature.
In 2018 Naturalia was released.
In 2021 Naturalia II was released.
Naturalia III was due to be released in 2024.
Jonk initiated this work in the Paris region in 2013 and continues it today across the world. Naturalia included photographs from his beginnings to 2017. Naturalia II, those between 2017 and 2018. This third opus will include images taken between 2018 and 2019 in Japan, Portugal, Moldova, Belarus, Georgia and during numerous expeditions. in France, Belgium, Germany, Italy…. The pace of travel has decreased significantly since 2020 for several reasons: Covid, the desire to reduce his carbon footprint by flying less, the opening of his gallery. He can say that he will not return to the previous pace. 39 countries visited between 2017 and 2019, you have to know how to be reasonable. But although he becomes somewhat sedentary, nothing will be able to curb the irresistible desire to explore these timeless places, to witness the omnipotence of Nature. These abandoned places fascinate him, these atmospheres captivate him, these settings amaze him.
This book marks a new stage. It is not simply a question of showing abandoned places reclaimed by Nature. The goal is to invite reflection on the place we occupy on Earth. Make Man understand that he is nothing compared to Nature which is everything. This third opus once again testifies to the strength of Nature and the urgency to finally show ourselves humble.
Since Naturalia II, Jonk has made significant progress on this theme since he opened the Galerie Nature Forte in Paris. It highlights the work of artists showing the force of Nature. At the same time, he launched the concept of Strong Nature and wants to make it a genre of visual art in its own right like landscape, portrait or still life. Any artistic creation whose purpose is to show the force of Nature, relative to Man or not, can be found in this concept. These creations can be the result of any type of artistic activity: painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, illustration… His photos are, of course, part of this concept. He has since named around ten artists but there is a long way to go for Nature Forte to become what he hopes for: a universal artistic concept!
