Venice at Night
I have traveled to Venice, Italy to photograph the city every year for the last12 years with this year being an exception because of the Covid virus. The photos in this collection are a small part of my larger project.
Tourists seldom see the city after dark except in the areas that they frequent because of the restaurants they like and most are in bed by 11:00 in the evening. Most of these photos were made after dinner and a visit to my favorite wine bar, Cantina Arnaldi, starting around midnight. At that time the streets of Venice are transformed into something that looks like the set of a 1950’s film noir. It is also eerily quiet except for a few campos where young people hang out to drink with their friends. Other photos are made between 4:30 and 6:00 in the morning.
