The Paris Cinema International Film Festival in Hong Kong has presented for the last three years an outdoor photo exhibition, featuring the extravagant guests “in action”. Every single day during the festival, the photographer Jérôme Bonnet immortalizes the visits of the guests including international artists and directors. Printed during the night, the portraits are available to the guests the following morning. Bonnet’s portraits are selected from these archives and exhibited on the Avenue of Stars, during the annual film retrospective under Le French May.
2012 marks the 20th year of the large annual French May festival in Hong Kong, organized by the French Consulate General with the support of the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, and the Institut Français. Through June 24th, the festival will present an exceptional program featuring more than 20 exhibitions, 50 performances and 50 screenings. The festival offers visitors a panorama of French culture, from visual arts, opera, dance, music and theatre, to fashion, cinema and cuisine.
The 2012 edition is a further illustration of the excellent cultural cooperation between France and Hong Kong. Bonnet established his award-winning career by taking strong and captivating pictures that offer different angles of much-photographed celebrities, while remaining commercial enough to secure regular editorial press exposure. Bonnet thrives on creating images of the celebrities different from standard portraits. The trick, not easy at all, is to capture provocative original portraits without scaring the celebrities away.
