In 2010, Jeremy Stigter photographed the patients and the nursing staff of the Cancer Unit at the Hôptial Cochin in Paris, led by Professor François Goldwasser. This photographic series was born of portraits reflecting the relationship that formed between the photographer and his subjects. The shorts text that accompany each photograph, excerpted from their conversations, are an extension of the work. Through their words the patients express their particular relationship to life and the world, that vital relationship in which all those suffering from illness find themselves.
Jeremy Stigter was born in the Netherlands. He holds degrees from the London School of Economics (History) and the College of Europe in Bruges (Political Science). Stigter dedicated himself to photography during a long stay in Japan. Throughout his career, he reported from around the world, and published the book Jewish Brides in the US in 2009.
