Preview

The both series Maybe it will be the end of suffering and Outside Syria, outside camps by Jérémy Saint-Peyre were selected by Laura Serani (Curator of Month of Photography 2014) during portfolio review at the Gaite Lyrique on the 15 and 16 November 2014.

Maybe it will be the end of suffering
Syrians were oppressed, Palestinians were not welcomed and Kurdish were persecuted. With the raging war that still goes on since 2011, they had to choose between surviving under the bombs in liberated area, living with the threat of Assad’s security forces in regime controlled provinces, suffer the cruelty of radical groups… or leave.
Many choose to aim for European countries, through Mediterranean sea, Turkish borders with Greece or Bulgaria, or any other options. From a country to another, they started to face harsh reality ; terrible living condition, restricted liberty when they get asylum status, no help to ease the pursuing of their life goal in dignity… depending on the country.
The lack of global solutions through and between European Unions countries, as well as the Dublin Regulation of 2003 are making things worse, again, depending on the country.

Outside Syria, outside camps
Since the beginning of the Syrian revolution, almost three years ago, the Syrian people have had flee the fights, the poverty, the radical groups, etc. Some stay in Syria, others manage to reach bordering countries. In Turkey, refugee camps are full, the conditions there are relatively good, but a part of the refugees remain outside the camps because of lack of space. They are on their own, without legal status.
Along the 800km common border between Syria and Turkey, in cities as Reyhanli, Akçakale, Killis, Karkamis or in small villages lining the border, there is a small scale part of the Syrian society : families refugees, volunteer of the FSA or the Islamic Front at rest, Generals and Colonels, civil activists, journalists, deserters, former student, and foreigner coming to make their Jihad, humanitarian workers having driven about fifteen ambulances from England to Syria, wounded soldiers impatient to return to the fight in spite of heavy wounds and others wondering what their life are going to be after loosing several limbs.
