In Montreal, the Month of Photography, now entitled Momenta Biennial will begin this Thursday, September 7 until October 15, 2017! The fifteenth biennial is conceived as an artistic reflection on the image, the video and the photography. “What is the name of the image?“, This is the main question of his guest curator, Ami Barak. The commissioner of Salon Montrouge 2016 explains: “I propose to explore the notion of photographic and videographic evidence in its most varied aspects. If the camera sees better than the eye, it is the artist who, in the last resort, imprints on the image of the world his own point of view, his intuition, his disenchantment. ”
The Momenta Biennale is divided into three parts. Initially, 23 artists and 150 works are presented in two main spaces, the UQAM gallery and Vox, center of the contemporary image. They include Adel Abdessened, Seung Woo Back, Sara Cwynar, Samuel Fosso, Liu Yue and Kim Waldron. In a second stage, 14 individual exhibitions are distributed throughout the city with Jin-me Yoon, Taryn Simon, Anne-Marie Proulx and Akram Zaatari. Finally, in a third stage, an exhibition of archives and documents is shown to Artexte. Here, David Hartt, Nelson Henricks, Micah Lexier, Valérie Mréjen and Erin Shirreff will be present.
