The Richard Avedon Foundation announced the passing of Yasuhiro Wakabayashi known as Hiro with these words :
“In honor and in loving memory of Hiro, who has passed away at the age of 90. Hiro was Richard Avedon’s good friend and closest colleague. He began working as an assistant at the Avedon studio in the mid-1950s. By 1957 he had asserted himself as an independent photographer. Hiro and Avedon would go on to share a studio for the better part of two decades. This image of Hiro was photographed in Avedon’s apartment in 1990.” – The Richard Avedon Foundation
