We heard of the passing of Herb Greene. Petter Fetterman writes:
It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to our dear friend, Herb Greene. A true visionary behind the lens, Herb was not just a photographer but a chronicler of an era, capturing the soul of a generation that reshaped music, culture, and art. Herb had an uncanny ability to see beyond the surface. His portraits of the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, and countless others did more than document—they revealed. He preserved moments of raw energy, vulnerability, and unguarded humanity. Herb’s legacy is indelible. His images will continue to inspire, and to tell the story of a time when music and art had the power to change everything. We will miss him dearly. Rest easy, dear friend.
Peace and love,
Peter Fetterman
“I was the guy with long hair and the camera. It’s like that thing you mentioned in the beginning, the right place at the right time with the right attitude. I fit right in, by God. I was one of them. And it was exciting. We were used to living kind of rough anyway, a lot of us. Again, it was easy to live in San Francisco without too much money. At any rate, we were all hungry.” – Herb Greene
