Born in 1945 in Paris, Francis Jalain has just left us. He still had many artistic projects in the making. Self-taught photographer, it was in 1965 that he entered the world of photography. Fashion and advertising assistant until 1970, he left this environment where he felt cramped. Until 1999, he chose to be a freelance photographer, traveling and producing illustrative reports for magazines, publishing houses and photographic agencies.
A discreet and independent person, with a humorous glance and always on the lookout, this enthusiast of Alternative Photographic Techniques, who defined himself “as having never ceased to keep an eye to build an artistic work inspired by beauty, poetry, silence, light and humor ” began his first artistic research in 1972, followed in 1976 by a first exhibition: “Drôle de famille”, perpetuated by Éditions Contrejour. Other exhibitions and publications followed, including a series on Fresson prints. It is this work that he bequeaths to us, to review again, or to discover.
