Comrade and master Carlos Bosch passed away at the age of 75 – this took place on the morning of Monday, June 22, 2020 (04:30 Argentine time)
Carlos arrived in Barcelona from Argentina in the mid-seventies of the last century, threatened with death for his left-wing militancy and for his journalistic reports. He came from a country subject to the macabre violence of the military coup, that previously had developed a much richer visual culture than we had in our country. He immediately changed the official conception of press photography in force in those years and taught us how to build modern sections of photography based on vitality, experimentation, breaking stylistic molds, addressing new issues and doing so by taking professional and personal risks.
Carlos Bosch, as photographer and as head of photography for El Periódico de Catalunya at its launch and early stages, was instrumental in the growth of visual culture in newsrooms at that exciting time of transition; For young photographers, this gave us the certainty that we could transform the way of thinking of journalists, that we were active agents in the development of ways of doing things that were much more daring, much braver, that we could put photography at the height of the best journalistic content and work side by side with our writing partners. He taught us to defend our work and our position in the newsrooms through a concept that until then did not exist: graphic editing, the assumption of responsibility for visual content.
I personally owe Carlos Bosch permanent recognition for having trusted me and other young photographers to help him carry out his renovation project: his commitment at that time has been decisive in my life.
Not having been able to find him again to express my gratitude will be one more weight than we carry in the last stages of life. Thanks Carlos.
