Olympic athletes, with their incredible feats of strength, speed, and general physiques, are captured by photographer David Burnett. He has been capturing this magic since the early ’80s. He uses both modern digital cameras and old silver cameras to pay tribute to the athletes and the sporting movement in a very personal way. His photographs take you there, and let you feel what it is like to be in the milieu of great athletic talent. In mere hundredths of a second, the pictures capture the essence of years of training and effort.
David Burnett was born in Salt Lake City, worked for TIME-Life publications for five decades, and continues to cover politics and sports for his agency, Contact Press Images. He’s covered every President since JFK and twelve olympic games since 1984.
