This portfolio had been selected by David Friend for the Weekend portfolios. Anna Orłowska is part of the photographers selected in Hyères so we decided to publish it again.
“I am interested in a man and his simultaneous being between nature and civilization, which leads to inner conflicts and tensions. I am interested in man as the author of the strangest discoveries, records and deeds – a story of human madnesses.
I am interested in the formation and functioning mechanisms of illusion and artificiality – visible not only in objects but also thoughts and relationships.
I am interested in the complexity of the image construction – I see photography as an image of a structure, which is formed by man or nature.
I am interested in photography because of it`s involvement in everyday life. The variety of context comes from multiple functions. In my work I examine the interdependency between a mental image (imagination) and its mechanical reproduction.”
Anna Orłowska was born in 1986 in Opole, Poland. She graduated from the Photography Department at the National Film School in Lodz where she received her master diploma. In october 2012 she started Phd studies. Since 2008 she has also studied at the Institute of Creative Photography, Silesian University in Opava, Czech Republic. Her project The day before was selected for the ‘reGeneration2: Tomorrow’s Photographers Today’ exhibition, presented at the Musée de l’Elysée in Switzerland, Aperture Foundation in New York, at the Pingyao International Photography Festival in China and many other galleries and institutions all over the world. Author of several individual exhibitions, she also participated in numerous group shows including exhibition at the Forward Thinking Museum (NYC), at the Month of Photography in Bratislava, Prague Photo Festival, Voies Off Screening in Arles.
