The International Center of Photography gallery of Mana (NJ) hosts the Korean photographer Han Youngsoo exhibition Photographs of Seoul: 1956-1963, until June 9. It is the first major U.S. showing of his works.
Shortly after the Korean War, for nearly eight years, Han Youngsoo captured the astonishing evolution of Seoul. The city underwent astonishing restructurations both in its architecture and social ground. The photographer documented Seoul’s popular life, the simple joys of its gardens and parks, the cycle of seasons and the business of its great boulevards, fully bringing the city into modernity.
