After 15 years of being held during the month of September, Getxophoto changes its dates and the new edition takes place from the 2nd to the 26th of June. Under the guidance of its curator Jon Uriarte and with the title To Imagine, the Festival explores the role that critical imagination plays in thinking about other scenarios in times of crisis and and the possibilities that images offer for this purpose.
22 projects will articulate this year’s programme. Artists from different backgrounds and disciplines will be in charge of tackling various aspects of this year’s theme from multiple points of view.
Among the participating artists is the Swiss creative duo Jojakim Cortis and Adrian Sonderegger, who will present Icons, a project that invites us to question the veracity of photography, especially at this time of intense social debate about the authenticity of images. The artists reconstruct world-famous images in their studio and re-photograph the scene, this time including the materials and tools used. Robert Capa’s fallen soldier in the Spanish Civil War, the arrival of man on the moon or the burning World Trade Center are some of these iconic photographs that are part of the collective unconscious and are recreated by these artists.
