For 17 years, photographer and documentary filmmaker Gerald Assouline went east to the borders of Europe, to meet the ghosts and angels… Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, from the Baltic to the Black Sea, from Tallinn to Odessa… His book Eastern Ghosts and Angels is a 120-page, Italian-style (landscape) object; it contains 73 black and white photos between intrigue and mystery. “So many passages, trains, roads, streets, footprints in the whiteness of the snow, the photographer’s walk and the world around. A going thru places, but also times, living or dead men blazing and then disappearing”, writes in an introduction Caroline Benichou, director of the gallery VU’ in Paris.
