In her series Anonymous Women, Patty Carroll humorously deals with the complex relationship between women and domesticity. By camouflaging the character in drapery and / or household objects, she creates a game of hide and seek between the spectators and the anonymous woman. Her activities, obsessions and objects overwhelm and consume woman, making the space around her a place of unexpected tragedy. The series, which began in 2013, has won several awards and is the subject of numerous museum exhibitions in the United States. “My intention is to draw attention to heroic and invisible women who silently run a home, a family and often a career. My images symbolize so many women, regardless of their cultures or backgrounds, rooted in the culture of consumption , how they use objects to ensure continuity of tradition, and how material goods can substitute for identity. ”
Originally from Illinois, Patty Carrol studied graphic arts and photography at the University of Chicago. She has devoted most of her career to teaching photography, lecturing and participating in seminars in most American universities and institutions.
