To mark the publication of the book Being Here (Skeleton Key Press, 2024), Galerie VU’ presents a selection from this series by Øyvind Hjelmen, exhibited for the first time in France.
Through a scenography that plays on scale and proximity, this exhibition unveils Øyvind Hjelmen’s sensitive and introspective world. The spatial arrangement invites meticulous contemplation, where each image is discovered in close proximity, with the delicacy of a memory book.
Visual fragments tinged with a gentle melancholy, Øyvind Hjelmen’s photographs evoke suspended moments, reminiscences floating on the edge of the visible. His work questions the persistence of memory and the fragility of the moment, in a subtle balance between what remains and what fades.
With Being Here, Øyvind Hjelmen invites us to immerse ourselves in the twists and turns of memory and perception. The small, delicately staged images recall the book-object from which they originate. Each photograph is like an imprint, a whisper of the past that resonates in the present.
