The La Forest Divonne gallery presents a new solo exhibition by Illés Sarkantyu, curated by Didier Quilain who presents it as follows:
The issues of absence and presence, memory and heritage feed the work of Illés Sarkantyu. With great curiosity and extreme precision, Illés Sarkantyu thus explores the world. Sophistication is not the goal, however. He takes us beyond the visible. Acting as an investigator, historian, archaeologist or simple witness, Illés Sarkantyu seeks images and traces of stories that he revisits through his own photographs.
Passionate about art history and interested in subjects on memory, absence and presence, the photographic work of Illés Sarkantyu maintains a close relationship with the sensitive world.
Over the years, with his unique perspective on a wide variety of subjects, the artist has shown great curiosity and acumen through several series of photographs.
Although one might think that these different series are not necessarily linked to each other, given their different nature, a red thread actually connects all of Illés Sarkantyu’s work: attention to the sensitive, human and otherness, which remain at the heart of his photographs.
