The Galerie Hémisphères presents the exhibition Rituals Of Brazil : Capoeira – Candomblé – Carnaval by Stéphane Herbert.
Salvador de Bahia, heart of African Brazil. Despite centuries of oppression, the culture of the Afro-descendant society has deeply permeated Brazilian civilization. The people of Bahia, today mixed, invented the rituals: with capoeira as a fighting dance; with Candomblé as sacred theater; with carnival as a great moment of popular ecstasy.
Three rituals to enter into the rhythm, magic and joy of the Bay of All Saints. Three dynamics irrigated by the powerful breath of “ax”, the Afro-Brazilian vital energy.
Stéphane Herbert has been a photographer for around thirty years. . He has Worked in Brazil since meeting Pierre Verger in 1995.
