Independent French photo-reporter Mathias Depardon is detained by the Turkish authorities after his arrest yesterday in the southeast of the country (Hansankyef). Living for several years in Turkey, he was preparing a story for National Geographic. Erol Onderoglu, a representative of Reporters Sans Frontières in Turkey, announced his arrest. Last February, Deniz Yücel (Die Welt) was arrested, he is still jailed today. The Italian Gabriel del Grande had known similar fate in April.
This series of arrests of foreign journalists follows the repressive policy directed against the media, political opponents, intellectuals, academics and judicial persons by President Erdogan and his administration.
