Françoise Saur was the first woman to receive the Prix Niépce, in 1979. For the past 30 years, Saur has collected photographs, creating albums from her daily life and encounters.
Born in Algeria in 1949, in the Great South (then inaccessible due to the war) fed my imagination. When a Franco-Algerian association offered me the opportunity to live with women in the villages of Gourara, I accepted immediately. I was able to take intimate photos thanks to the trust we built together. Our bond went unspoken as the days passed. We lost our sense of time. I had to be present, available, but nothing could be disturbed. The offering had to come from these women, and I had to perceive it in the slightest gesture. From 1999 to 2001, I resolved to live only with the women although, as a foreigner, I had access to both worlds.
