The Françoise Demulder Award, created by the Ministry of Culture in partnership with Visa pour l’Image-Perpignan international photojournalism festival, promotes the careers of women press photographers by awarding every year two of them for the quality and uniqueness of their project. The 2022 edition rewards Nanna Heitmann and Adrienne Surprenant.
Nanna Heitmann (born in 1994), for her reportage War is peace on the indoctrination of the Russian population carried out by its leaders within the framework of the conflict with Ukraine. A German-Russian photographer represented by the Magnum Photos agency, Nanna Heitmann lives between Germany and Russia. She has covered Russian news for several years but is more broadly interested in the issues of isolation – social, political, physical. Adrienne Surprenant (born in 1992), for her project on the impacts of climate change in Tunisia. Canadian photographer based in France, Adrienne Surprenant is a member of the MYOP Agency. She develops long-term subjects, particularly in Africa, around questions of identity, mental health, human rights and the environment, reflecting the harsh reality of the world. Her work has been published in many international media, including the Washington Post, Time, The Guardian and Le Monde Diplomatique.
