Flowers Gallery presents a solo exhibition by British multidisciplinary photographer and filmmaker Lisa Jahovic, titled ‘The Third Drawer’. The exhibition marks the artist’s first solo show and will incorporate various mediums presented in the artist’s work, including video, photography, and sculpture.
The presentation explores the performative dimensions of photography, sculpture, and film through nonlinear narratives formed by everyday objects. Showcasing a series of pre-existing artworks and a new body of work centred around the exploration of analogue experiments where everyday objects become vessels for expression, offering a fusion of visual poetry and kinetic artistry.
‘The Third Drawer’ is a term often used colloquially to refer to that mysterious compartment where items find their home, ranging from keys to spare batteries, perhaps spoons, and objects with holes. Within the gallery space, ‘The Third Drawer’ expands itself from a physical space to a metaphor for the human psyche or collective consciousness, where memories, emotions, and fragments of experiences are stored away, sometimes forgotten, but can be influencing our perceptions and behaviours.
Jahovic’s monochromatic works present a dichotomy between poetic fragility and tangible destruction, transforming mundane objects into engaging art forms. Through a mix of absurdist humour and philosophical inquiry, she invites viewers to a cerebral celebration of the nuances found in everyday life.
Artist Lisa Jahovic said: “For the exhibition, I wanted to look at everyday objects which are immobilised, and think how they could reach for something, how they could extend themselves into the world, how they could move, how they could breathe. Observing and re-forming the found objects until an alluring motion forms or an unexpected interaction unfolds. To transcend their static nature and uncover hidden narratives.”
