The 6th Festival of Surrealist and Creative Photography which took place at the Villa Aurélienne in Fréjus awarded the prize for surrealist artist of the year, presented by Olivier Damon (president of the Festival) to Aurélia Cheret. This is how the photographer presented herself:
I started film photography as a teenager through my passions for music and dance. During my studies in art history, I decided to make it my career and trained at the Campus des Métiers in Bobigny. After obtaining my diplomas, I worked for seven years in a photography store in Seine-et-Marne. This allowed me to learn more about the many facets of the profession such as the lab part, retouching, the studio, etc. Since 2018, I have devoted myself to my personal artistic work which I exhibit on different occasions in Ile de France and Burgundy and I sell my photos online. As an artisan photographer and artist, I attach great importance to making the prints myself whenever possible, using carefully selected materials. I mainly work on two series: “Ladies States” (part of which is presented to you here) and “Forest Spirits” (photographs of plants in symmetry to give birth to protective wild creatures or mandalas).
