It was fashion that brought me to photography! By dint of reading and re-reading Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and other fashion magazines from everywhere, I started to get interested in the people who produced these dream photos… Then, the passion for the image changed to that of the clothes and their creators. With this exhibition, I’m behaving selfishly again, and mixing the two elements that I love so much: fashion and photography! I remember the pages of Vogue I cut up to keep the most beautiful images of the greatest fashion designers on the greatest models by the greatest photographers!Bruce Weber, Herb Ritts, Steven Meisel, Peter Lindbergh, Paolo Roversi, Richard Avedon, Ellen Von Unwerth, Nick Knight, Bettina Rheims, David Sims, Mario Sorrenti, Irving Penn…. And what to say about the first print by Avedon that I was able to buy… the unbelievable feeling of happiness that I had gone from cut-up pages to a real print, a superb photographic print, checked by Avedon, signed by him, and that, in a way, I owned a “morsel” of his extraordinary work! An absolutely magical moment! And then all these extraordinary moments when I was able to rub shoulders with these photographers who I had dreamt about as a teenager, thanks to the Gallery, and the creators of fashion who went to it, what a surprise to see that, far from the clichés, they were neither divas nor outrageous personalities, and cut off from “real life”, but quite the opposite, I discovered determined and passionate workers, hyper-cultured and open to others! So I hope, with this exhibition, to pay homage and recall the memory of some of these magicians, and of these marvellous creators who inspired such beautiful images and whose beauty gave me so much joy! And that these talented photographers should be better known to the public and their names resonate in our memories!
