As legend has it, when gods roamed the earth, a few drops of eternity were lost in the Ganges… From January to March 2013, millions of Hindu pilgrims came to purify themselves in the sacred waters of the city of Allahabad. This pilgrimage, the most important of the Kumbh Mela, is the largest human gathering in history. For three weeks, from Varanasi to Allahabad, I followed these Kumbh Mela pilgrims. The next Kumbh Mela of comparable importance will take place in 144 years.
