After 139 days of photo review and judges’ deliberations, the HUAWEI NEXT-IMAGE 2021 Awards crown their 70 winners and establish themselves as one of the most popular and influential photography competitions in the world.
The winning entries highlight the details of the world as seen through the photographer’s lens, using the power of smartphone photography to tell life stories or ever-changing social landscapes.
All of the winning works of this edition of the Huawei NEXT-IMAGE 2021 Awards will be exhibited at the Huawei Paris Opéra store, a magnificent 850 square meter space in front of the Opéra. This is a great opportunity to discover some stunning images and to encourage everyone to try their luck for the next edition in 2022.
A prestigious jury
This year, more than 1 million photos from over 100 countries and regions were judged by a team of image experts from various backgrounds and countries around the world.
Canadian extreme sports photographer Reuben Krabbe was joined by renowned British art critic Karen Smith and French radio and television producer Olivier Chiabodo.
Familiar with the most prestigious awards, Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer and founder of the Shanghai Photography Center Liu Heung Shing was joined by one of the NEXT-IMAGE 2020 Grand Prize winners, Lin Haiyin.
Finally, BNU School of Journalism and Communication professor, Yu Guoming, and HUAWEI Consumer Business Group’s vice president of marketing, Li Changzhu, rounded out the outstanding jury.
Photographers of the Year
The outstanding works of awardees Attila Tompa (“Generations”), Zhang Wei (“Hometown Party”) and Zdeněk Dvořák (“I’m a Father Now!”) as “Photographers of the Year” received critical acclaim from the judges. Each of these Hungarian, Chinese and Czech photographers received $10,000 to help them continue to create and express themselves using Huawei smartphones in the future.

2 French people won the prizes this year in 2 different categories “instant” and “portrait”.
