The online art gallery Le Nouvel Opera showcases a collection of iconic album cover art prints including Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin and many others. The high quality prints are signed and authorised by the creators (Hipgnosis, Sir Peter Blake, Robert Crumb, Terry Pastor). Some are also signed by the artists themselves (David Bowie, Bob Geldof, Peter Gabriel, Debbie Harry, BB King, Robert Fripp …). A treat for music fans as well as art lovers.
Designers include Hipgnosis, “the masters of rock art” according to Gilles Soulier, the founding director of the gallery and absolute fan. “They just produced the greatest 70s and 80s album covers: Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel, Genesis, 10cc, Paul McCartney & Wings… it would take too long to name them all. The originality is that Hipgnosis was acclaimed by bands and much less by the record companies. Imagine the face of the marketing director of the record company when he discovered that the cover of Atom Heart Mother, a sophisticated Pink Floyd psychedelic album released in 1970, was just a cow in a field without the name of the group! As a result, the album became N°1 in the charts ”
Sir Peter Blake, a great British pop artist is also represented with the cover of the world famous Sgt Pepper’s Beatles album and the Live Aid concert poster also signed by Bob Geldof, a rarity. Among others, we also rediscover the work of Terry Pastor for David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, Hunky Dory, all signed by Bowie) the work of HR Giger, creator of the monster of Alien for the Debbie Harry or a BB King portrait by Robert Crumb, the great American underground cartoonist.
In 2020, the online gallery will also launch events and pop-ups in Paris and around France.
Le Nouvel Opera’s CEO and founder, Gilles Soulier, is an experienced art director and film director as well as a guitarist. The Gallery is a link between his passions.
