Photography Award The HIPA 13th Season Photography Competition Opens for Submission

The HIPA 13th season photography competition opens for submission. The Award also increases its prize pool to one million us dollars and introduces a new special awards category. 

The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) has announced the categories for its 13^th Season of competition, under the theme of ‘Sustainability’. The five categories include:

• General (Colour and Black and White)
• Portfolio (Story-Telling)
• Short Videos (for Social Media)
• Sports Photography
• Sustainability

These categories give photographers the opportunity to stay in tune with global trends and express them through their unique artistic vision, enriching the global concept with their distinguished work.

HIPA has also revealed that the yearly prize pool has surged from US$ 450,000 to US$ 1 million, commencing from this season. The grand prize has ballooned to US$ 200,000, awarded to a single photographer chosen from participants across of all the category entries.

Secretary General, Ali Bin Thalith said, “The decision to double the total value reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and patron of HIPA, in upholding the essence of each photograph’s message and aligns with the growing influence and impact of photography in conveying truth, beauty and knowledge, as well as its evident contribution to positive change. The rapid and compelling advancements in the skills of photographers worldwide has encouraged us to redouble our efforts and appreciation, ensuring that we keep pace with these distinctive developments.”

Furthermore, HIPA has a new Special Awards category, the ‘HIPA Photographer of the Year’ Award; created to honour one outstanding photographer who has accomplished exceptional photographic achievements over twelve consecutive months. This Award acknowledges a year enriched with extraordinary visual imagery and photographic projects of exceptional value. The prize for this Award is valued at US$ 80,000.

Submissions for the HIPA POTY and the categories closes by 30^th June 2024 at Midnight (UAE Standard Time).  All amateur and professional photographers, over 18 years old, are invited to participate and showcase their creativity, vision, and storytelling abilities by submitting their entries today.
